Cheyenne’s true Western heritage is showcased annually the last full week of July. Cheyenne Frontier Days™, a tradition since 1897, has become America’s premier celebration of the West. Residents and visitors watch the world’s largest and most action-packed rodeo by day and attend unforgettable concerts presented by the nation’s biggest names in country and rock music at night. Frontier week is more than just rodeos and night shows!
One of the nation’s top western art shows and sale hangs at the Old West Museum (a “must see” site in itself), a spectacular air show is presented by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, color-filled and authentic examples of Native American art and culture are available for viewing and purchase, three free pancake breakfasts feeding thousands of hungry visitors are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, four grand parades featuring the world’s largest collection of horse-drawn vehicles start from the Wyoming State Capitol building on Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, and an old-fashioned performance of a melodrama complete with a villain, damsel in distress and hero is held every night. As you can tell, there is no lack of activity in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
